Solo Ensemble Festival for Elementary Students

TIPS FOR PARTICIPANTS AND PARENTS:

  • Saturday morning, May 13, at ALA from 8am-12pm. The solo and ensemble performances will take place 8-11am.        
  • Arrive at ALA at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
  • Vocal students should plan on having a live accompanist or bringing their own CD player. CD players will not be available. 
  • All students should have an original copy of the music ready to hand to the adjudicator at the time of performance.
    Measures must be numbered on both the adjudicator (judge) and student copies of music. 
  • Parents may be in the room to listen to their child's performance. 
  • The judge will speak with the participant for a few minutes after the performance.
  • Scores will not be available immediately. It may take 20-30 minutes for the scores to be posted.
  • If you are unable to wait for the scores, you may leave and wait to get your scores from your music teacher.

INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS AND TEACHERS:

  • Saturday morning, May 13, at ALA from 8am-12pm. The solo and ensemble performances will take place 8-11am.        
  • Friday, April 28, 2017 - All names of performers must be submitted using Google forms. If you do not have the link, contact Ms. Oppermann.
  • Friday, May 5, 2017 - Initial schedule will be sent to the teachers and schools. 
  • Tuesday, May 9, 2017 - Final schedule will be ready.
  • Schools and teachers should collect the $7 fee for each entry/time slot. Submit payment by mail when returning the registration form. If submitting your registration form by email or fax, please plan to bring payment the day of the festival. It is acceptable to have two checks: one for piano students and one for instrumentalists. Checks should be made payable to Arizona Lutheran Academy. 
  • Festival participants must give an original copy of the music performed to the adjudicator (judge) before performing. Measures must be numbered on both the adjudicator and student copies of music. Please relay this information to your students. 
  • Teachers must notify their students of the schedule.
  • Any cancellations after April 28 will still be subject to the $7 registration fee. 
OUTSTANDING 8th GRADE AWARD

Eight grade festival participants who receive a starred 1st from the adjudicator are invited to perform again in front of all the judges at 11:15am. Judges will then choose one winner from among the pianists and one winner from among the instrumentalists. Festival participants must give an original copy of the music performed to the adjudicator (judge) before performing. Measures must be numbered on both the adjudicator and student copies of music. Copied music will disqualify a student from the Outstanding 8th Grade Award.

These two winners 
  • are invited to perform at the ALA Commencement Concert on May 26, 2017;
  • will receive a plaque and special recognition; and
  • will be awarded a $200 scholarship to ALA. 
The playoff for the Outstanding 8th Grade Award will happen at approximately 11:15am. The event should conclude by approximately 12pm. All of these times are guidelines only. The final timeline will be based on the number ofparticipants.
 


IN YOUR FREE TIME:
If you have "down" time, consider a picnic at Cesar Chavez park, a stop at the Phoenix Public Library, or a drive to the top of South Mountain. There are also several restaurants in the area that serve breakfast, lunch, or fast food. Check out locations at 51st Avenue & Baseline (west of ALA) or 24th Street & Baseline (east of ALA).

NEW FRESHMAN TESTING for 2017-18: 
This testing date is optional. Those interested in testing indicated this during Course Selection. If your student has changed plans and no longer wishes to test or now would like to test, please contact Admissions Coordinator, Michelle Meyer at Admissions@ALAcoyotes.org or 602-268-8686 x40.

Testing session begins at 12:45pm
Math only: 1.5 hours
Science only: 1 hour
Both: 2.5 hours

Reminder:
Math: Student is currently taking Algebra I and wishes to assess skills for possible entrance into Geometry as a freshman.
Science: Student wishes to assess Physical Science knowledge for possible entrance into Biology as a freshman. (No prerequisite class required.)
