1. What is Steps of Faith?|
Steps of Faith is an Arizona Lutheran Academy Capital Campaign. Steps of Faith will improve facilities on the campus of Arizona Lutheran Academy in order to better serve current and future students. The Steps of Faith Capital Campaign was approved by the ALA Federation in December 2007.
2. Are you adding more classroom space?
This campaign includes two additional classrooms, whose primary use will be fine arts and music instruction.
3. Why is a new band room needed?
We currently have 65 students in concert choir, 34 in band, and 60 students in freshman choir. Our current band & choir room is not conducive to serving such large numbers. A new band room will allow us to expand our music program, more effectively serve our students, and provide a space for band practice that is acoustically "safe" so that students and directors are not placed at risk for hearing loss or injury.
4. Why do you need more locker rooms?
Today, ALA has 15 athletic teams. Each of our two small locker rooms contain 68 lockers. However, we have 80 boys needing locker space. In addition, we have no locker room space to accommodate visiting teams. The design of new locker rooms will also provide for smoother traffic flow to and from the gymnasium.
5. Why are you spending so much money on infrastructure, parking lot, fire sprinklers?
These improvements are required by city code and must be completed in order to move forward with any other building plans.
6. What would happen to the existing music rooms, weight room, and locker rooms?
Our music classroom will be returned to storage-its original purpose. The existing weight room will, likewise, be converted to much needed storage space. Our two existing locker rooms will remain as such.
7. What are "current and future capital improvements" and why are they necessary?
In addition to larger capital expansion, ALA has a list of smaller but nevertheless critical capital improvements to better serve our students. These include installing video security, resurfacing the gym floor, refinishing the existing parking lot, upgrading technology, replacing pianos, finishing the 2007 gymnasium sound system renovation, and converting a science classroom to a science laboratory.
8. Do you plan to add to your debt?
It is our intention to "build as we are blessed." In recent years, we have been blessed to dramatically reduce our debt. Unlike our 1986 campaign when it was necessary to finance the majority of new campus construction, it is our intent not to add substantially to our current debt load.
9. Do you have plans beyond Phase One?
In developing a long-range master campus plan, we are evaluating the benefit of facilities such as an enclosed commons and performance center in the existing plaza (the area between the classrooms and gymnasium); a field house or multi-purpose facility for practice, performances, or large gatherings; additional classrooms; and additional office space. It is our desire that any future phases work together to provide campus continuity and satisfy student needs.
10. Is the school leadership unified about moving forward with these plans?
With the recommendation of our Board of Directors, the Arizona Lutheran Academy Federation of delegates unanimously approved this campaign in a special meeting on December 2, 2007.
11. What impact will this campaign have on tuition?
Since capital building and debt are managed outside the general budget, this campaign will not have an impact on student tuition.
12. How will I make my financial commitment toward building our new campus?
You can commit a gift on or after the Steps of Faith Gala at ALA. For more information contact ALA Development Director, John Sebald, at 602-268-8686 or Sebald@ALAcoyotes.org.
